Glidden residents experience a high quality of recreational life. Three parks grace the community. The city has two lighted ball fields for the baseball and softball programs and a soccer field in its sports complex. The community recently constructed an Aquatic Center that is one of the crown jewels of the region.
Glidden has a volunteer Parks and Recreation Board. Board meetings are on the first Wednesday of the month. Several recreational programs are provided for children in Glidden
Youth recreational programs include: soccer, Baseball & Softball, T-ball, Swim Team, and Swim Lessons.
Other recreational activities include an Easter Event, 5K Fun Run/Walk, Fall Family Festival, Winter Holiday Night, Euchre Tournament, Live Healthy Iowa, and Senior Social Time.

Northland Park is located on the western side of Glidden, just north of US Highway 30 and across the highway from the Aquatic Center. Northland Park is truly a naturalist’s dream. Natural grasslands grow openly along the over one-mile long winding trail system. A butterfly garden allows for relaxation and observation of butterflies and additional wild prairie flowers.

325 E 3rd Street
City Park, located in the east-central section of the city, is the largest park. In addition to modern playground equipment to entertain children, there is an indoor and outdoor shelter. The indoor shelter is equipped to handle receptions and larger get-togethers. The total seating capacity indoors is 88 people.

Glidden has been honored as a Tree City community since 1996. Being a Tree City USA helps present the kind of image that most citizens want to have for the place they live or conduct business. The Tree City USA signs at community entrances tell visitors that here is a community that cares about its environment. It is also an indication to prospective businesses that the quality of life may be better here.
